New adjuvant helps fight Asian rust

Precision Laboratories, Waukegan, IL, says it new Protyx is a unique activator adjuvant specifically formulated to enhance the performance of both systemic and contact fungicides and their tankmixes.

In independent research trials, Protyx, in combination with systemic fungicides, has been shown to reduce a wide range of leaf diseases including rust, Septoria and gray leaf spot, according to the company.

Unlike adjuvants that were principally developed for use with herbicides, Protyx maximizes fungicide performance by better managing the complex interaction between host plant, fungus, fungicide active ingredient and formulation while optimizing crop safety.

Syngenta continues business integration

Syngenta, Golden Valley, MN, announces the next steps in the integration of its newly acquired seed businesses. To better align its recent acquisitions of 90% of both Garst and Golden Harvest with its NK Seeds brand, the company will close or reduce capacity at 12 seed corn and soybean seed production locations and two field offices.

Syngenta says it will continue to meet customers' needs with more than 50 seed production facilities, research sites and customer service centers located across the United States. The integration process and site closings will be complete as of June 30, 2005.

Pioneer names new district sales manager

Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Mankato, MN, has named Matthew Prigge district sales manager. Prigge and Pioneer field agronomist Jerome Lensing will work together to serve growers in southeast Minnesota.

Prigge will direct 19 local Pioneer representatives in Dakota, Goodhue, Wabasha, Olmsted, Winona, Fillmore and Houston Counties.

Triple trait offering

Monsanto Company, St. Louis, MO, announces the availability of the biotech industry's first triple trait offering — YieldGard Plus with Roundup Ready Corn 2 technology. The new product will offer corn growers in-seed protection against corn insects and the flexibility of herbicide tolerance in one seed.

The triple trait technology will be made available for planting in corn hybrids through Monsanto's branded seed businesses — DeKalb and Asgrow — as well as through licensed, independent seed companies. YieldGard Plus with Roundup Ready Corn 2 will be available in limited quantities in 2005 with broader product availability in 2006.

Sequence herbicide for soybeans

Syngenta Crop Protection, Greensboro, NC, announces that its Sequence herbicide is now available for use on soybeans.

A premix of potassium glyphosate (Touchdown) and S-metolachlor (Dual Magnum), Sequence controls a broad spectrum of broadleaf weeds and grasses in glyphosate-tolerant soybeans, according to the company. The herbicide offers two modes of action, with glyphosate providing down-to-the-root foliar activity and the S-metolachlor component acting to control weeds before they emerge.

Syngenta claims Sequence provides residual and contact control of more than 170 types of weeds, including barnyardgrass, crabgrass, foxtail, fall panicum, common lambsquarters and pigweed.
