Inoculant extends planting window

Advanced Biological Marketing, Van Wert, OH, introduces America's Best Inoculant Plus 30 for soybeans. According to the company, the new product is a liquid additive that extends the postinoculation planting window up to 30 days even with some fungicide and insecticide combinations.

America's Best Inoculant Plus 30 will offer new options for bulk seed inoculation, custom seed inoculation and on-farm inoculation by extending the amount of time the soybeans can be inoculated prior to planting.

Dow prevails in corn patent suit

A federal court jury decided in favor of Dow AgroSciences, Indianapolis, IN, invalidating all asserted claims of the sole remaining patent in a patent infringement suit brought by Syngenta Seeds. The suit had targeted three insect-protected corn products that include the insecticidal proteins from Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt), sold by Dow AgroSciences and Monsanto Company.

Earlier, two related patents owned by Syngenta were eliminated from the case by a ruling of the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware that Dow AgroSciences' and Monsanto's products did not infringe those patents. The products at issue include Dow AgroSciences' Herculex I Insect Protection corn and YieldGard, a Bt corn product designed by Monsanto Company.

EU approves Roundup Ready Corn 2

Monsanto Company, St. Louis, MO, announces that the European Union has approved Roundup Ready Corn 2 single-trait hybrids for use in food and food ingredients. The company says this approval opens doors into European markets that had previously not accepted the trait and increases the number of places where growers can sell their biotech grain.

With this approval, Roundup Ready Corn 2 single-trait hybrids will no longer need to be marketed under the Market Choices certification mark. The Market Choices certification mark, owned and licensed by the American Seed Trade Association (ASTA), identifies those technologies that are fully approved for food and feed use in the United States and Japan, but are currently lacking approval in the European Union.

Monsanto suggests that U.S. corn growers who planted Roundup Ready Corn 2 seed corn products contact their local grain handlers to learn more about their buying position.

Cruiser for potato pests

Syngenta Crop Protection, Greensboro, NC, introduces Cruiser seed treatment insecticide for broad-spectrum protection of potato insect pests. According to the company, Cruiser protects the entire plant from damaging pests and the diseases they commonly vector by offering targeted pest protection and uniform results from day one.

Cruiser is compatible with Maxim 4FS, the only liquid seed treatment fungicide registered for use on potatoes, creating a valuable combination of insect and disease protection, the company says.
