Monsanto recognized The national FFA Foundation recently recognized Monsanto Company, St. Louis, MO, for 50 years of support of FFA and agricultural education. Glenn Smith, vice president of Monsanto's U.S. Branded Business, sales and marketing, accepted the award during the 2003 national FFA convention in Louisville, KY. Monsanto received the award for its contributions to the overall efforts of the FFA with programs such as its Ag Sales Career Development Event, AgriScience Student Award and the H.O. Sargent Diversity Awards. Three associations approve relationship The Agricultural Retailers Association (ARA), CropLife America (CLA), and The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) have approved a new interdependent relationship. The new agreement will enhance coordination of policy advocacy efforts and may realize cost savings across the three national associations. The associations agreed that ARA will become the source of retail and wholesale distribution focus and advocacy in Washington, DC; CLA and TFI will each provide significant financial support to ARA for its operating and advocacy efforts; and a federation of participating state and regional associations will be formed to provide more grassroots support for retailer advocacy. Implementation of the interdependent relationship is expected to begin no later than October 1, 2004. Favorable scientific opinion issued Monsanto Company, St. Louis, MO, announces that the European Food Safety Authority has issued a favorable scientific opinion on the company's NK603 Roundup Ready corn. The announcement, which represents the conclusion of an extensive food safety assessment for the herbicide-tolerant technology, signifies a key step in the European regulatory process, according to the company. For more information, visit www.monsanto.com. Dow AgroSciences names new president Dow AgroSciences has named Jerome Peribere, vice president, agricultural chemicals, to succeed A. Charles Fischer as president and CEO of Dow AgroSciences LLC. Fischer, who held the position from March 1999, will complete 37 years of service with the Dow Chemical Company. He will become chairman of the Dow AgroSciences members committee. Peribere has a 27-year career with Dow, spanning sales, management and strategic roles around the globe. New CAN coordinator for MACA The Mid America CropLife Association (MACA) has named Janet Braun as its new CropLife Ambassador Network coordinator. With a family background in farming, Braun understands agriculture and recognizes the need for crop protection products for a safe food supply. She will coordinate plans for the CAN program. Orr joins AMVAC AMVAC Chemical Corporation, Newport Beach, CA, announces that John Orr will join the company as product development specialist for the northern region, replacing Michael Thornton.
