Closing the training gap

BASF is offering Your Training Manager, a service specializing in customized learning and professional development services, to ag retailers.

The program offers an ongoing learning system geared to five major areas: business management, leadership, sales and marketing, team building and business skills.

Initially the program will be marketed through distributors. “We did not want to be in conflict with other training programs currently being offered by our channel partners. Bottom line is that there will now be more learning solutions available to ag retailers,” says BASF Business Director Steve Rezac.

Your Training Manager offers more than two hundred 30-min. “Learn2Earn” modules, which utilize a blended approach of e-learning and on-site instruction. Rezac says it is particularly suited to companies wanting to establish ‘learning organizations,’ as opposed to those looking for one-time training seminars. “In pilot groups, we determined areas of high interest include consultative selling, selling with style, customer relationship management, setting business direction and understanding how business works.”

Client companies go through a four-step process. First, learning needs are analyzed using the Roadmap2Success, a free diagnostic tool. In step two, managers, key employees and a Your Training Manager account representative attend a one-day classroom program at the customer's location. Here they determine the client's business strategy and set the top three or four goals for the next year, write a monthly action plan and determine what skills and competencies will be required to achieve their goals. The third step involves customizing a learning system that fits their situation. Finally, the program is implemented using a learning system that works best for the individual company. Typically, customers select forty-eight 30-min. Learn2Earn modules, Rezac says.

Pricing starts at $5,000 per retail location. Specialized curriculums are available for managers, sales reps, operations personnel and office staff. For more information, log on www.agproducts.basf.com, call 919/547-2483 or e-mail steve.rezak@yourtrainingmanager.com.
