Improved Ro-Gators

Jan 1, 2003 12:00 PM

Ag-Chem equipment touts its new 864 and 1064 Ro-Gators as running “stronger, longer and cleaner.” Improvements include:

  • More oomph

For engine power, Ag-Chem engineers kicked up horsepower options and switched from Cummins to CAT. The 800-gal. Ro-Gator 864 offers a 225-hp CAT, with 25 more horsepower than the 854 engine. The 1064, with a 1,000-gal tank, features a 250-hp CAT. The new models join the 275-hp, 1,200-gal. model 1254 in the Ro-Gator lineup.

  • Enhanced operating systems

Pumps, valves and cooling components are improved or simpler to operate, says sales engineer Kraig Hunter. An integrated side-by-side cooling system replaces a stacked system, reducing efficiency loss caused by debris buildup between coolers. Hydraulic oil reservoirs are increased from 48 to 60 gals. Hydrostatic tandem Eaton series II pumps power the full-time 4-wd.

Foaming is reduced with an electronic sparge valve, combined with an in-cab lightbar indicator and push-button controls. It allows easy agitation adjustment to match remaining spray volume. Repositioning the flow meter mount to a vertical position gives easier access and eliminates cavitation, a concern during low-rate application. Moving the rinse tank from the right-hand catwalk to the top of the product tank allows operator access from either side. Rinse tank capacity is increased from 50 to 110 gals. A redesigned electrical distribution center features fault indicators that light up to identify problem circuits.

  • Better boom handling

Ag-Chem improved the full-boom breakaway feature of the 854 with all new pressure-compensated boom fold and full-boom breakaway hydraulics and redesigned boom section shutoffs. Newly designed electronics replace air valves, also eliminating the need for air hoses and an air dryer for cleaning valves.

  • Tire rating

The 380/90R46 Titan radial 10-star tires offer the highest load-carrying capacity available for row-crop machinery.
