Your reputation is paramount! Feb 1, 2004 12:00 PM Den Gardner None of us who grew up on farms liked doing chores. Well, maybe those who stayed on the farm and made a career out of it. But not me. I used to tell my identical twin brother (Dan) when we were growing up on the farm that my motto for doing chores was “Dare to be Mediocre” because then dad would never peg me for a life of farming. Well, it worked. I now have a career writing about agriculture instead of doing the “real” work on farms and for farmers like you. Where am I going with this? I was recently reviewing a grower profile on seed buying done by The Corn and Soybean Digest. Two questions on the survey really struck me. Although they are fairly obvious in what they tell us, it's a good reminder as the spring season gears up. First, about 94% of the growers said dealer reputation is either very important or somewhat important in their buying decisions. Second, about 97% also said past experience with a company is very important or somewhat important. No room for mediocrity here. The doorstep detail: Selling seed continues to be a profit opportunity for you. Get better at selling it if you already do or look seriously at getting into it if you can. This income stream can be a vital cog in your revenue generation each year. Work with the best seed companies in your area and deliver to your growers. Your reputation will be all the better for it. |
